雪ニモ夏ノ暑サニモマケヌ　丈夫ナカラダヲモチ
慾ハナク　決シテ瞋(いか)ラズ　イツモシヅカニワラッテヰル
一日ニ玄米四合ト　味噌ト少シノ野菜ヲタベ
アラユルコトヲ　ジブンヲカンジョウニ入レズニ
ヨクミキキシワカリ　ソシテワスレズ
野原ノ松ノ林ノ陰ノ　小サナ萓ブキノ小屋ニヰテ
東ニ病気ノコドモアレバ　行ッテ看病シテヤリ
西ニツカレタ母アレバ　行ッテソノ稲ノ朿ヲ負ヒ
南ニ死ニサウナ人アレバ　行ッテコハガラナクテモイヽトイヒ

雨ぇも負けん　風でん負けん

雪でっちゃ 夏ん暑さにっちゃ 負けん　丈夫んか図体(づうたい)ばもち

慾張らでん　決して腹(はる)かかんで　いつでんおっとり笑(わる)うとる

一日(いちんち)に玄米四合と　味噌と ちぃっとばっかんの野菜(やしゃー)ば 食(く)い

何でんかんでん　吾がば算用(さんによう)にゃ入れでにゃ

ゆうっと見聞きし　納得して　そして忘れでん

野原ん松ん林ん陰(かげ)ん　こまぁか萱葺(かやぶ)きん小屋におって

東に 病うだ子どんがおったろうば　行たて　付き添うてやり

西に きゃー草臥(くたぶ)れたかかさんのおらっせば　行たて　そん稲ん束ば 負(かる)うてやる

南に 死んかぶった人(もん)のおんなされば　行たて　怖(おと)ろっしゃせんちゃよかといい

北に喧嘩(けんか)てろん 揉めごつんあれば　つまらんけん　すんなといい

旱魃ん時ゃ 涙ば流ゃて　肌寒か夏ぁ　不安でおろおろしてさるく

まわりから役立たずち　言われ　褒(ほ)められもせぇでん　厄介にもされでん

そがん者(もん)に　わしゃ なろごたる

Ame nimo makezu   Strong in the Rain

I will not give in to the rain      

 

I will not give in to the rain.

I will not give in to the wind.

I will have a healthy body

That won’t give in to the snow

or to summer’s heat.

I will have desire.

I will not get angry.

I will always be smiling quietly.

I will eat four cups of brown rice,

miso and a bit of vegetables each day.

In everything,

I will not count myself.

I will look, listen and understand well,

and I won’t forget.

I will live in a small thatched but

in a field in the shade of some pine trees.

When there is a sick child in the east,

I will go and nurse him.

When there is a tired mother in the west,

I will go and carry her load of rice.

When there is a person dying in the south,

I will go and say,

“You don’t have to be afraid.”

When there are fights or lawsuits in the north,

I will say,

“Stop it, because it’s not important.”

When there is a brought,

I will shed tears.

When there is a brought,

I will shed tears.

When the summer is cold,

I will walk around helplessly.

I will be called useless by everyone.

I will not be praised

or thought a pain.

This is the person

I want to be.
